US-based multi-industry manufacturer Jabil has acquired Pharmaceutics International (Pii), a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO).
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Maryland-based Pii specialises in early-stage, clinical, and commercial volume aseptic filling, lyophilisation, and oral solid dose manufacturing.
The acquisition will help Jabil meet the clinical and commercial drug manufacturing needs of healthcare customers.
It also complements the manufacturer’s existing pharmaceutical solutions, providing support for customers in drug development, clinical trials, and product commercialisation at scale.
Pii president and CEO John Fowler said: “This acquisition marks an exciting new chapter for Pii.
“We look forward to leveraging Jabil’s extensive expertise to accelerate our mission of delivering best-in-class drug development and manufacturing solutions to our customers and ultimately the patients we serve.”
Established in 1994, Pii has expanded to over 360,000ft2 across four sites in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
Its advanced Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facilities include over 70 manufacturing rooms, containment suites for high-potency compounds and hormones, and specialised suites for oral products like soft gels.
Pii also offers an aseptic facility for injectables like vials, syringes, and cartridges, a formulation development centre, and analytical and microbiology labs.
According to Jabil, this expertise will enhance its healthcare solutions by adding a comprehensive portfolio of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing services.
By joining Jabil, Pii will gain access to a global infrastructure, advanced automation, and an improved supply chain efficiency, boosting responsiveness and innovation for their pharmaceutical partners.
