Barcode technology has taken a quantum leap forward with the introduction of the HD Barcode and its ability to embed up to 703kb of secure, encrypted data.
It is a revolution in data density, and information; ideal for product identification, brand protection, track and trace, anti-counterfeiting and marketing without the need for an online connection. As a printed barcode, it can also be added to the manufacturing process without significant added cost. And, unlike most 2D barcodes, the HD Barcode can be designed and configured in different shapes and formats, as well as incorporating embedded photographs in and on top of the barcode.
While Data Matrix or QR (Quick Response) barcodes are in the public domain and counterfeit codes can be easily created, the HD Barcode is proprietary with a unique identifier assigned to each manufacturer. To further secure the code, it can be created with public/private key encryption.
The HD Barcode also features a print generator program that is kept secure and can be integrated with the printing operation, as there are important reasons to keep the print generator secure and separate from the readers.
The HD Barcode can be created as small as 2×2mm in size. A manufacturer can then incorporate the HD Barcode into the printed materials such as cartons, labels, or containers, allowing for the positive identification of their products without internet lookup. This may be important in certain areas or countries where easy and quick access to the internet is not available.
The anti-counterfeiting HD barcode can also be created so it will not scan if copied and reproduced. With specific data, it can be used to absolutely authenticate a product at the pharmacy, without the use of a database.
The code can even contain the entire instructions or directions for use of the product in the barcode, as well as images of what a "good" product or carton should look like or unique identifiers, such as a serial number.
Matching production codes
The HD Barcode can be used in conjunction with GS1 codes to provide authentication of the information printed in the Data Matrix to confirm the pedigree of products without the use of the internet.
Frequently asked questions tend to concern the amount of data in the HD Barcode, relative to its size. Complete Inspection Systems recommends printing the HD Barcode at 600 dpi, but have been successful in printing and reading the code with a variety of ink jet printers and laser printers in the manufacturing areas with lower resolutions. The code has also been successfully printed with lower resolution thermal transfer printers, as well as higher resolution processes like flexographic and offset printing.
The ability to read the code is also based on the resolution of the cameras. The HD Barcode reader works with a variety of smartphones and has been tested extensively with the Samsung Galaxy S3 as well as the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5. For larger HD Barcodes, up to A4 in size, a variety of flatbed or sheet scanners are available.
Complete Inspection Systems can also provide custom camerabased readers using technology with up to 14MP resolutions.
The company also offers a PC-based reading program that allows the code to be taken from jpgs, bitmap image files and PDFs, as well as HTML files. If additional data needs to be incorporated, the information can be zipped into the barcode and read.
As a final test, Complete Inspection Systems offers AutoProof Pro, an image and text compare program, which contrasts an HD Barcode that has already been read with the original document for accuracy. AutoProof Pro is also an excellent comparison system for the incoming inspection of materials against golden or approved masters.
Diavy is also a member of the International Hologram Manufacturer Association (IHMA) and we register every security holograms which is created.
The dedicated Master origination process of the holograms according to customer’s requirements, recombination process, special holographic shims creation and all the micro-holographic embossing process are manufactured inside the company on specific and dedicated machinery and equipment, that we have created and developed with MHT, our technological internal Division.
This can guarantee not only an excellent result but also the security and the certainty that the production is unique. It is important to underline that this process of micro-holographic embossing is made directly on aluminium foil by embossing the surface without any coating or treatment before, and without any transfer technology such as cold or hot foil stamping that are not permanent and easily to remove.
Thanks to our revolutionary technology, the holographic security features are not reported, but becomes property and integral part of the material itself and therefore they are impossible to alter or counterfeit.
This revolutionary security feature of Holography DIRECTLY on Aluminum Foil has been patented by Diavy.
