Shipping containers are becoming increasingly popular as repositories for pharmaceutical products. TITAN Containers has extensive experience throughout Europe providing storage units that have a multitude of benefits to suit the pharmaceutical industry.

Shipping containers are a well recognised solution when additional on-site storage capacity is required by companies, irrespective of their type, size and business sector – and the pharmaceutical industry is no exception.

TITAN Containers has provided the pharmaceutical industry with storage solutions for more than 20 years. Headquartered in Denmark, the company has recently extended its services to include most European countries as well as South America. It has also introduced new products, some of which are suitable for the storage of a broad spectrum of pharmaceuticals.

TITAN's ArcticStore and the multiple-pallet-wide SuperStore units feature, as standard, a new technology refrigeration plant, along with advantages including greatly reduced power consumption, easy-to-open doors, flat anti-slip floors, internal lighting and precise temperature control, to ensure optimal environmental working and storage conditions.

ArcticStore

ArcticStore containers are storage units that focus on effective and accurate temperature control. In the UK, typical savings of £10 a day can be achieved when comparing ArcticStore machines running at -25°C with those usually used in the UK rental market. At chilled temperatures, the savings are around £5 a day.

With the introduction of its state-of-the-art refrigeration machinery and containers, ArcticStore has added new dimensions to the UK hire market, including an increased temperature range and improved reliability.

SuperStore

The SuperStore container modules are designed to be used in multiples to create single storage areas that are suitable for use with pallet movers and/or fork trucks. Built using internal stainless steel wall panels and aluminium roof panels, SuperStores are easier to keep hygienically clean than glassfibre and polyester interiors. Compared with three-pallet-wide units, the flat aluminium floors allow fork-truck operations.

SuperStore units are manufactured using the same features and components as TITAN's standard cold stores. They are available in lengths of 20ft and 40ft and can be as wide as clients require. For many applications, TITAN can reduce the number of machines needed to maintain temperatures. SuperStore 5 (which is ten-pallets wide) can operate with only three machines running in tandem. On-site construction is fast, with two days the usual time taken to complete the job.

"The use of containers for storage has become extremely common, because they are relatively inexpensive and are often available to meet acute demand,' says TITAN's managing director Layland Barker. "Whereas the majority of suppliers offer the sale and rental of older equipment, TITAN operates an extremely modern rental fleet, with new and used equipment for sale.'

SuperStore boasts a superior design and improved hygienic qualities.

"New containers have the added advantage of better insulation values and this, combined with the refrigeration plant, can realise power savings in excess of 50% when compared with older equipment,' says Barker.

The containers can also maintain extreme temperatures from -40°C to 60°C. The easy-to-open doors, flat floors, a ramp to container floor level, internal lighting and air curtains are all valuable, user-friendly attributes. The doors are built with an internal opening, contrary to standard refrigerated containers, and should this fail, there is a panic alarm for user safety.

"Many of our customers didn't realise these types were available until they discovered TITAN,' says Barker. "Hopefully, when more companies become aware of these benefits, they will consider using TITAN for their business requirements."
